Former chairman Stewart Milne leaves Aberdeen board

Former Aberdeen chairman and current board member Stewart Milne has announced that he is leaving the club's board after 32 years in charge. When making this decision, Milne stated that "fresh blood" needed to be brought to the club.

Milne, a local businessman and lifelong Dons supporter, was appointed deputy chairman in 1997 and served as chairman from 1998 until 2019. He continued his role on the board in December 2019, after Dave Cormack took over as major shareholder. "We have had many ups and downs during my tenure. However, despite very difficult and testing times, we have always managed to find a way forward. There will certainly be new and different challenges and I think this is the right time for fresh blood to lead the club into the next era," Milne told Aberdeen's website.

As well as genuine achievements on and off the pitch, Milne also highlighted the importance of winning the latest Scottish Cup and building a new training ground at Cormack Park. "I may be leaving the board but I'm not walking away from Pittodrie and I plan to attend as many games as possible," he said. Cormack announced that Aberdeen would give appropriate honors to Stewart and his family. "During this time, Stewart provided strong leadership and direction as we led Aberdeen FC through some of its most challenging periods. His wise advice, determination, tenacity and commitment never wavered and he always acted in the best interests of our club. Stewart has been a great support to me over the years and I was delighted that he agreed to remain on the board after stepping down as chairman," Cormack said.
