FIFA President Gianni Infantino is preparing to meet with FIFA's senior executives on Wednesday. Infantino is facing increasing criticism after a plan to sell FIFA's commercial and events operations was scrapped. Following a harsh internal memo written by FIFA General Secretary Mattias Grafstrom to FIFA employees, Infantino will gather members of the FIFA executive board in Rabat, Morocco, to evaluate the situation.

Recently, FIFA's Head of Global Football Development, Arsene Wenger, stated that Infantino was not included in the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal and stated that the cancellation of this plan was "absolutely necessary and unquestionable". Jordan Football Federation President Prince Ali accused FIFA of creating "blackmail" regarding unpaid prize money and support for Infantino's re-election. The accuracy of this claim has not yet been confirmed by the BBC and FIFA has not commented on the matter. However, Prince Ali's statements reflect the sentiments of member associations opposed to Infantino.

UEFA declared that it had lost confidence in Infantino's leadership, and many member associations, particularly Wales and England, withdrew their support for Infantino's re-election. Now, Infantino will meet with FIFA's senior staff and look for ways to consolidate his position. While the content of the meeting remains unclear, Infantino is expected to try to build bridges to find support.

In his letter to FIFA employees, Grafstrom stated that the events of recent days were "a series of regrettable and reprehensible events." FIFA's Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Lamour, said the private investment plan was "one man's project" and added that FIFA's own management had been "deceived". Infantino may have to offer a way to win back at this meeting or he could lose supporters within him.

Infantino's closest adviser, Carlos Cordeiro, announced he was resigning over the plan and offered a list of questions Infantino will face at the meeting on Wednesday. Cordeiro asked: "Why this agreement? Why now? What controls are there? Who will benefit? Is there a competitive process? What management structure will there be? What will the investors ultimately gain and what will this cost of football be?" He emphasized that questions such as these were not answered.It is stated that this proposal has become a decisive question for the future of FIFA. Infantino may have to present a road map for reform at the meeting. This may include providing additional checks and controls that would make it impossible for a similar plan to be proposed again. It remains unclear whether Infantino plans to leave the presidency. However, during this period, African countries, especially Egypt, Morocco, Niger, Mauritania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, made statements of support to Infantino.

Infantino will have to answer such questions within FIFA. He will have to deal with harsh criticism, especially from European countries. It is a matter of great curiosity what kind of reaction Infantino will receive from those attending the meeting. If Infantino shows resistance at this meeting, he could face opposition from UEFA and other confederations. The FIFA Council may request an extraordinary meeting to put Infantino in a difficult situation. However, in order for this request to be realized, 19 FIFA Council members must make a call.
